Health Tips For New Year’s Resolutions
[ Post by Lisa Tedder ][ Post on December 31, 2012 ][ In Medical and Health Information, Miscellaneous ]
Wow, it seems like a very long time has passed since I last posted. I took a mini vacation last week since most of you were probably too busy to check in anyway. Now New Year’s Eve is here and I’d like to us all to reflect upon our health and take a reality check. What did you do last year that was beneficial to your health? What did you fail to do that would have improved your health? Worse, what did you do that was down right bad for you and you knew it?
Under the things that were good for you, I hope you can list that you kept up an exercise program or started one. Perhaps you drank more water every day in 2012, and added more fruits and vegetables to your diet. Surely none of my readers smoke but hopefully you gave it up in 2012 if you listed smoking among your bad habits. If you took preventative measures for your health such as getting a flu shot, seeing the dentist for a checkup and checked your blood pressure, give yourself a high five.
What about your failures? Did you just coast along thinking everything was ok with your health and not lifting a foot to help yourself? Did you ignore the fat jiggling around your waist? Did you laugh off the fact that you get breathless after one flight of stairs? Are you really too busy to cook, exercise or get your flu shot? You will have to make time to be sick, believe me.
Worst of all, are you one of those people who know full well you are doing bad things to your body and just keep on doing it? Are you content to settle for feeling bad all the time or are you convinced nothing bad will happen to you? Well maybe you will be lucky but sooner or later, we all have to pay for our transgressions. I may be married to a doctor but I don’t fancy visiting any doctor or hospital.
So as you reflect upon the coming New Year, shift some attention away from the financial crisis and think about yourself. After all, health care is expensive and you could reduce that expense by taking care of your body as best you can. Also, think about the health of your children. Think of the harm you are doing if you don’t teach them to take care of themselves by exercising and eating a healthy diet filled with fruits and vegetables. Surely you don’t want your children condemned to a life of bad health because of your laziness and neglect? Start the New Year right and make good health your highest priority. Everything else will fall into place.
