A Fatty Diet And You

MMMMM! Doesn’t that look good? Can’t you just smell it? Those fries look so crispy and that aioli sauce looks creamy. Wouldn’t you love to wrap your hands around that burger? Perhaps you’ll go out and get one for lunch.
That may be what you are thinking when you see that picture but my first thought is actually “That looks like heartburn waiting to happen.”. Sorry to sound like such a tofu loving Debbie downer but when you don’t eat much fried food or food heavy in saturated fats, your body just can’t handle it and usually rewards your indiscretions appropriately. I think it’s the body’s way of telling you what you should and shouldn’t eat, if only we’d pay attention.
Surely you know by now that a diet high in saturated fats and trans-fats will have ugly consequences. Not only will you get a spare tire or two but your risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes and cancer goes way up. With the exception of my son who is now in college and does what he pleases, my family limits foods like the hamburger and fries above to an occasional meal. And by that, I mean way less than once a week. The last time I had a hamburger was back in the summer, maybe July; the same for pizza. Now I’m not trying to sound virtuous here. I just know I can’t and shouldn’t eat that way. Once you get used to a diet low in the bad fats, your stomach will be sure to remind you if you do eat a greasy meal. Uggg!
I did some brief research on the causes of various types of cancer like pancreatic, breast and colon ; every one mentioned obesity as a risk factor. We all know though we don’t like to admit, that obesity is caused by eating too much of the wrong kinds of food plus being inactive. Do yourself a favor and lower your risk of developing a whole host of undesirable diseases by improving your diet. Live longer and more importantly, live better. Listen to your body.
