Ways To Be Healthier
[ Post by Lisa Tedder ][ Post on April 8, 2013 ][ In Diet Tips and Better Eating Ideas ]
I’m afraid I need to get on my soapbox today. I keep preaching but feel I’m not reaching very many people. So here it is: YOUR HEALTH IS LARGELY IN YOUR OWN HANDS! My husband and I had dinner with another physician and his wife this weekend and the topic was how the public wants doctors to fix EVERYTHING that is wrong and do it CHEAPLY too. However, this same public ignores the dangers of smoking, the problems that result from not exercising and the fact that they are FAT from eating too much junk. Really my husband and I are often sad when we see so many unhealthy people around us.
There is no magic pill. There is no simple shot or cure that will fix the problems we bring on ourselves. We must re-learn what it means to eat a healthy diet and to exercise if we want to be healthy. It is that simple. Educate yourself and your children about how to take care of your body beyond brushing your teeth.
Recently two different friends have told me that their doctor has placed the entire family on a vegan diet. For those of you who don’t know, vegans don’t eat dairy or eggs but do eat only plant-based foods. Each friend has one member of the family with severe problems such as bloody diarrhea, inflamed, pus filled intestines, horrible reflux, raw places on the lining of the esophagus and weight loss. One friend reported that though they were very skeptical of the treatment plan, they saw results after only two weeks. The other friend has yet to start the diet as their visit was just last week.
Switching to a vegan diet is not be easy but it can be done. You have to want better health and make it a priority before it will happen. There are so many resources to help you eat better, including this website; all you have to do is google “vegan diet” or “recipes for vegetables” or whatever you can think of.
I am not saying that we should all switch to a vegan diet but I am saying, “Get off your butt and get moving!”
“Eat your vegetables like Grandma told you to!”
“Learn to eat appropriate portions of food and stay away from all-you-can-eat buffets!”
“Put down those sodas!”
“For God’s sake, quit smoking!”
“Quit eating junk food like chips, fries, cookies and other processed foods!”
“Learn to cook at home using whole foods, not food from a box!”
“Quit whining about not liking vegetables!”
“Look down; if you aren’t blind or pregnant but you can’t see your feet, you have a problem!”
“Don’t whine about your health problems if you won’t follow a doctor’s advice!”
